Regarding the new song, I can say that it is quite average - it is not bad but also there is certainly nothing special about it; I did not expect anything from Nergal and co. So I cannot say that I am dissapointed. The biggest vibe killer are the children I must say; not only do they not add anything particular to the song, they also take away the atmosphere, a totally unnecessary move just for the sake of making an impression. The song title is also quite lazy and childish, featuring probably the most basic anagram ever. I don't like the album's title either. Looking at the positive side of things, the album is again mixed by Matt Hyde, so it comes as no suprise the the production is similar to The Satanist's vibe/sound –the sound is very good, as are Nergal's vocals.
The poppy song structure is also interesting and I think it works just fine (looking at the song lengths, I get the feeling that most songs will be following that route). I will definitely check this new album out when it becomes available. Last edited by on Thu Aug 02, 2018 6:23 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Album title doesn't bother me too much, but the song title is the kind of shit Aeon would come up with and then throw out because it sounds too ridiculous. Probably the worst 'Satanic' song title ever, even dumber than Deicide's infamous 'Mad at God'.
Still, the song itself is pretty cool, riff-wise. I wouldn't get too excited yet, though. From the press details, Nergal makes it sound like they're going in a black 'n' roll direction for most of this album - hyping up all the 'rock' elements and implying that AC/DC is his biggest musical influence nowadays. He's a talented songwriter so I'd imagine he can implement those ideas with some creativity, and I'm sure it won't be anywhere near as boring, stiff, and lifeless as nowadays Satyricon for example, but still.I'll be a bit cautious heading into this one. 'My lifestyle, determines my deathstyle'. Yes, the quote is from the Bible and not Nergal's own. Bar God=Dog I think some of the song titles are cool, the artwork is awesome and the teaser of the track we heard was brilliant.
Really pumped for this, based on the one track we heard this is sounding a lot more black metal than their recent work (bar the Satanist). I've always been a fan of Behemoth, but as I follow them throughout the years longer and longer, and see them evolve as a band, I just love them more. So much respect. Behemoth are just the fucking shit. Trying to pick a favourite album from Zos Kia and beyond is way too hard.
That album title is literally one word away from being the same as an As Cities Burn record. The new song sounds like a continuation of The Satanist, which isn't surprising.
The prominent use of choirs and melodic clean picking set it apart though. Altogether it's a pretty decent track and would have been one of the better songs on The Satanist. Based on the song titles I was expecting Illud Divinum Insanus levels of stupidity but fortunately that's not the case.

Given Nergal's dabbling in country folk and vocal love of non-metal projects, I'm always a little worried Behemoth is going to go full retard whenever they put out new music. Glad to see that's probably not the case.
The album title sounds like something Forgotten Tomb or Shining would do. Never got into Behemoth, I lump them in the same category as Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and the like. Too much theatrics for my taste Do theatrics take away from the music to you or something? I couldn't give a shit less what they do if the music is good, and all of those bands have released some pretty good albums at one point or another. In regards to the song, I would put it somewhere in the middle quality wise when compared to the Satanist.
The song is good, but it's pretty obvious Behemoth has been bordering on self-parody with the themes and imagery for a while now. I realize that a lot of bands have stopped taking things seriously for years now, but the 'look how blasphemous we are, lel' angle is a pretty old joke by now. The whole 'anti-Christian/anti-religion' imagery gets tired and lazy after a while and Behemoth has been doing this look for years now. The shock value of it has worn off years ago. I think it's about time for Behemoth to go into a different direction lyrically and imagery wise. The shock value of it has worn off years ago. I think it's about time for Behemoth to go into a different direction lyrically and imagery wise. That's very considerate of you to think that, but Nergal is a devout occultist, who is passionate about his spirituality and beliefs. He has been persecuted by governments for what he believes in, and coupled with the incompatibility that Christianity and left hand path occultism has, it's hardly a mystery that anti-Christianity is a prominent theme in his music. PS Nergal is not anti-religion, that's just stupid. Nergal is religious. I always find it hilarious when keyboard metalheads chip in to give their opinion on how X band should stop doing Y and should do Z instead because it's better.
I mean for fucksake, 'tired and lazy'. Do you really think Nergal is half assedly, absentmindedly penning lyrics, concepts and riffs out of sheer boredom?
Do you really think he's sitting around that uninspired, completely incapable of thinking of anything else? The man has a degree in History and is deeply spiritual. Religion, occultism and history are his PASSIONS in life, along with music. Please, go ahead and write an album that is your idea of original and innovative and let's see how it compares to pretty much anything that Behemoth has done. Christ I can't put into words how much eye rolling I do whilst reading MA sometimes. Go back to albums like Thelema.6 and Zos Kia Cultus. The lyrics and imagery were a lot more abstract and 'occult' in a more interesting way. Krzysztof Azarewicz was writing the lyrics (like how Vader used to farm out lyrics to different people and seem not to anymore - and we get dumb song titles like 'The Army-Geddon'), and was able to get tons of 'ancient' gods a mention in there: Dionisos, Orpheus, Attis, Osiris, Lilith, Thantilaxath, Zi'uaq, Ra, Pan, etc. Plus I miss those songs when the choruses and refrains were just invocations/chants: TE'O ENASHET ANAKAELO HECATE SELOEN ES ESSEKA'A ELOEONO TEE BEYES EMEGGIEL EKSE DERETE ENA'TIRU KAEON PER'AA A EMIEL ESCHETAR ESIE KAU NERES IA TA BA ET IA AZHI DA HA KA.and so on. Always felt like that was what Behemoth was about (and should have stayed at).Capable but not much else, it's the sort of song they could write in their sleep. I've listened to the track a few times now, because Behemoth has always had the habit of writing chaotic riffs that mystically match up to the drums on the bridge or chorus. It's only then that you realize the craziness has had purpose from the first note, and so you have to give it a few listens to properly digest the complicated arrangement.
God = Dog thought sounds like Inferno is back there playing a different song most of the time, and it just never melds. It's a wild Demigod riff over generic percussive fury. Am I going to get the album?
Almost certainly, yes. Frontierfactory/band-in-a-box 25 for mac. Am I going to wonder why I did, like when I got The Satanist? Also probably yes. Metalheads never get old. We just become legendary. The biggest vibe killer are the children I must say; not only do they not add anything particular to the song, they also take away the atmosphere, a totally unnecessary move just for the sake of making an impression.
To be honest,i was tired of see Behemoth doing the 'same' things since Zoskia Cultus in every new album. Now seeing them with these experimentations If i can call so,even If bad executed or in the wrong song such as the childrens choir that is something that i always like to see in extreme metal bands, and with the interesting, dumb and polemic song titles,i must say them are getting my attention again. And sincerely,i would expect a title like God=Dog in a xeroxed demo tape of a new and amateurish death metal band.
And sincerely,i would expect a title like God=Dog in a xeroxed demo tape of a new and amateurish death metal band. For instance (though that was just a line in a song, not the title, obviously) Anyway, Behemoth is one of those bands that operate as musical comfort food for me at this point. I'll probably continue buying their albums till either Nergal or I croaks, even if they're not gonna make any of my favorite bands of all time lists. Satanica and Thelema are the ones I listen to the most, though The Satanist might be their 'best,' objectively speaking: it's the closest to gritty, visceral, emotionally affecting music they've come up with, and the sound of the album is incredible. I think even Orion said something like 'you can hear the sickness in the music,' referring to Nergal's health issues around the making of it.
I look forward to the new one. I like Behemoth. The song is just 'fine' for me as of now but I will, of course, be picking this album up.
Also, I have done some business with Nergal in the past and I can appreciate that he fully means what he says with Behemoth. I think of Behemoth as the next evolution of King Diamond or something like that. They mean their message, they are earnest in their approach, but they are also showmen and entertainers first.
They want to put on a spectacle with their production, videos and photos. I get that some people think they over do it but, overall, I enjoy what Behemoth does. I didn't mind the title of the single so much, but when I heard it the influence of Me and That Man was obvious. This is blues Behemoth, and the album title kind of confirms it. There's nothing wrong with mixing genres, but I don't think Nergal is especially good at blues music, since I thought Me and That Man was kind of awkward.
God = Dog is pretty much a mixture between Nergal's two projects now, except the Behemoth riff, albeit catchy, is pretty run of the mill. And what's with that solo? I also didn't think the kids singing was going to work when I heard that he had them in the studio, and after hearing it my mind hasn't changed. Nothing about the new album so far has me really excited, but then again I'm someone who believes The Satanist is heavily overrated as well.
