Waterfox is a Firefox-based browser that wants to give all options to the user. It is open, free, and does not limit us in any sense. Although browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari dominate the statistics, we have dozens of possibilities when surfing the Internet. We do not have to settle for what everyone else uses, or what is already installed on the phone. We can use the browser we want, when we want and how we want.
Mastery of a few browsers makes it difficult to see all the alternatives that exist. For example, Opera is used by many users looking for a fast and light browser. Tor is the perfect choice if we do not want to crawl our connection in no time.
And Waterfox, the browser that we present today, wants to be free and private. Waterfox, a private and open browser. Waterfox, in fact, comes from the classic Firefox. Its developer, a student of 16 years called Alex Kintos, began in 2011 to create own browser based on the one of Mozilla. The goal, besides being written in 64-bit, was speed: I wanted to be the fastest browser available. But, over time, that approach changed: instead of being quick, the goal was to create an 'ethical navigator.' That is, a program that allows the user to choose what he wants to do.
The only thing that exists is an agreement with Ecosia, a searcher who devotes his profits to planting trees. When we say that Waterfox is free and private, we mean it. For example, you have disabled private multimedia encryption plugins. They have also eliminated all telemetry, all data collection and Pocket. No data comes to Mozilla, nor the Waterfox project. All this means that the browser is made for advanced users.
Waterfox is available for Windows (installable and portable), Mac, Linux and Android. The requirements are to have Windows 7 or later, and Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
Of course, being a 64-bit browser, we will need a 64-bit operating system.
